Visitors of Cyprus are able to have access to two distinctively different areas. Cyprus and North Cyprus are divided, but in recent years, they have been opened to tourists and citizens. Because of that, you can visit both areas when you visit Cyprus.

The borders are patrolled, which means you cannot just cross the border freely. Instead, there is a system in place, and by going through the system, you can have access to both parts of Cyprus.

If you want to cross the border in Cyprus, you will need identification or a passport. You will then be granted access at one of the checkpoints. Currently, there are six checkpoints in Cyprus that visitors and citizens can use in order to cross. The most recent was in Nicosia.

If you visit one of these checkpoints and go through you will be able to explore even more while on vacation. Many travelers choose to cross the border so they can get the most out of their vacation.

It is important to keep in mind you will need to leave your rental car at the border. You will not have access to your car rental after you cross the border, so you will need to walk or use public transportation when on the other side of the border.

If you are interested in crossing the border, go to one of the checkpoints. Be sure to bring your identification and have a plan on how you will travel once you cross the border. Then, when you are done with your day trip, you can go back to the border and return to your rental car.
